Fair trade can help achieve food security

Fair trade represents an opportunity for smallholder agricultural producers to increase household incomes and to enhance food security and nutrition among forest dwellers, users and local communities as well. Developing the fair trade supply chain also gives smallholders a better access to markets.

Pascal Liu, Senior Economist, Trade and Market Division, FAO, Rome shares his experience helping African women’s groups in West and Central Africa and emphasizes the need to increase investments in agriculture.
