International Seminar on Approaches and Methodologies for Private Food Grain Stock Measurement
7 February 2017, Delhi--- The seminar was attended by more than seventy participants, including 18 international participants from 12 countries and institutions. The seminar discussed the importance of a sound policy environment for foodgrain stock for stabilizing foodgrain prices, assuring “remunerative” prices to farmers and ensuring access to food staples by the poor. The ongoing work experience for designing and implementing grain stock surveys from countries such as Brazil, Philippines, Senegal, UK and USA were presented and deliberated to understand if broad approach and methodology can be standardized to facilitate cross countries comparisons. It was agreed that the imperative of measuring private food grain stocks needs to sink in the consciousness of National Governments and dovetailing the existing statistical operations and survey resources is much needed .

Presentation “Economic Considerations in Food Grain Stocking Policy” by Sumiter Broca, FAO Senior Policy Officer, at the International Seminar on Approaches and Methodologies for Private Food Grain Stock Measurement, held in Delhi from 9-11 November 2016.
