29 June 2004: THE INTERNATIONAL TREATY ON PLANT GENETIC RESOURCES FOR FOOD
To date, 55 countries have ratified the Treaty. Namibia, with FAO's assistance, is determined to make good use of its indigenous fruit trees for the benefit of the rural poor. Small-scale tree and forest enterprises can potentially improve rural livelihoods and provide incentives to better manage and protect natural resources at the same time. This is one of the major objectives of the Namibian Directorate of Forestry. Marula fruit
