The Philippines 1. International Development Agencies are now becoming increasingly aware of the fact that indigenous knowledge plays a crucial role in development efforts. In this recognition, the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United of the United Nations, has chosen the theme for 2005 World Food Day as "Agriculture and Intercultural Dialogue".

In connection with the theme of World Food Day, Hon. Corazon "Dinky" Juliano Soliman, Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development of the Philippines explained in an interview with the Information Service of the FAO, how the government, local authorities, local NGO and Women groups in Mindanao are using indigenous knowledge to preserve biodiversity and secure food to rural households:
