FAO Committee on Agriculture and the Millennium Development Goals
UNITED NATIONS' MDGs One of the objectives of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is the reduction by half the number of hungry people in the world by 2015. A United Nations-established Hunger Task Force of the UN Millennium Development Project recently highlighted the need for a strategic approach to reducing hunger and the crucial need to move from political commitment to action. Dr. Roland Bunch who is a member of this Task Force and the Director of Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Livelihoods, a US based NGO, attended the FAO Committee on Agriculture, last April 2005, in Rome.

In an interview with FAO Information Service, Dr. Roland suggested that an innovative strategy for realising food security among poor farmers, would be to promote what he termed "a farmer to farmer extension system":
