The first session of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture will take place in Madrid, Spain, from 12 to 16 June 2006. To-date, 100 countries have ratified the Treaty, thus recognizing that genetic material has proved to be crucial in crop improvement, particularly nowadays, in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.
