Strengthening capacities of farmers to adapt to climate change
Concrete and good practices through land and water management in sub-Saharan Africa

25 June 2013, Siaya County, Western Kenya -- Since 2011, the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture, FAO and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) have joined forces in a rural programme in Kenya with the aim to identify a set of Climate change adaptation possibilities based on land and water management, and test their effectiveness in strengthening community resilience capacity in the face of climate change. The following radio reportage – conducted in Siaya County, Western Kenya - showcased the most outstanding evidence of progress but also threats and solutions to address issues at stake: climate change resilience, income generation, etc.
In select sites, it ranged from building, boosting and managing healthy soils through soil and water conservation measure, through crop residue mulching, leguminous cover crops to other Sustainable Land Management practices aimed at increasing productivity.
