12 June 2014, Rome – In a joint press conference held today at the headquarters of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, the heads of FAO and the World Health Organization put a strong call out to governments worldwide. As millions of people around the world continue to suffer and die due to hunger and malnutrition, governments are being asked to make stronger commitments at the upcoming Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2). According to the agencies, governments need to identify policies aimed at ensuring healthier diets for their citizens. A high-level, global intergovernmental meeting, ICN2, is scheduled to take place in Rome 19-21 November 2014. It is co-organized by FAO and WHO with other UN and international organizations under the slogan: “Better nutrition, better lives”.
