8 March 2013, Kampala -- Although Uganda is generally food secure, the challenge is the unequal distribution of food which presents pockets of food insecurity in areas like Karamoja in north eastern Uganda. Efforts therefore need to be made to ensure that nutritious food is well distributed and consumed in all parts of Uganda. FAO also renewed its support in helping cooperatives and producer organizations in Uganda to thrive, by developing adequate policies, legal frameworks, economic incentives, and forums for dialogue on policy making. Uganda needs a major boost in agriculture to accelerate development, as the sector employs more than 80% of the population.
