The future of crop protection
Minimizing the impact of generic pesticides
©FAO/Carl de Souza / FAO
Approximately 3 to 4 per cent of pesticides on the global market are used in Africa and these numbers are expanding. Africa has a growing demand for pesticides, however the majority of the market today consists of generic pesticide and the quality is not always assured. Counterfeit products and sub-standard products are going into the market, leading to health concerns and crop loss to the consumers.

FAO in Africa interviewed Mark Davis, Senior Officer of the Pesticide Management Group at FAO, during a multi-stakeholder workshop on the future of crop protection on adverse impact of generic pesticide and how FAO has been working to minimize the impact.
