"Professional Football Against Hunger" Solidarity Campaign
FAO and the Association of the European Football Leagues (EPFL) which consists of 28 leagues representing 960 football clubs in Europe, have engaged in a Cooperation Agreement signed on 14 April 2008 to join forces, using their respective comparative advantages and the power of football, to boost the fight against hunger, especially at a crucial time when world food security is facing new challenges such as the global food crisis, climate change and bioenergy.(Photo©FAO/Giulio Napolitano)
Launching ceremony, 15 October, at FAO, in Rome -- On the occasion, Ministers for Sport from Austria, Italy, and Spain, Presidents and high-level representatives from several European Leagues (inter alia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Slovenia, the UK, etc), as well as FAO Goodwill Ambassadors Roberto Baggio together with Dino Zoff, former football champion (goalkeeper of the Italian National team) and written message from Raul Gonzalez, Captain of Real-Madrid, and Rudy Voeller, former German football player, were present at FAO HQ. Justine Pasek from Panama, Miss Universe 2002 and FAO Goodwill Ambassador attended as well.
