Giving rural Women a voice in decision-making
Using a Gender Perspective in the implementation of development programmes and politics is essential. More awareness and the guarantee for women's access to production resources is fundamental to achieve Food Security worldwide. The Second Non-Aligned Movement First Ladies Summit (15 November), the World Summit on Food Security (16-18 November) and a subsequent FAO Conference (19-23 November 09) have tried to draw attention on gender issues in agriculture.

Ms Marcela Villarreal, Director, "Gender, Equity and Rural Employment Division", strengthened the urgency of increasing the political will in dealing with this matter: ¿We are convinced that without addressing gender issues in rural development, we will never be able to achieve our objective of reducing or, hopefully, eliminating hunger¿
