London International Donor Conference for Syria

2 February 2016, Rome--- Leaders from around the world will meet in London on February 4th for a Syria Donors’ Conference. The aim of the conference is to raise significant new funding to meet the needs of all those affected by the crisis in Syria. For the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, food insecurity in the country needs to be a priority concern as millions suffer from hunger. The war in Syria now approaching its sixth year, and according to the agency, agricultural production has plummeted and food supplies are at an all-time low. FAO recently called on governments to provide a boost in funding targeted at helping farmers keep their lands in production to prevent the situation from deteriorating even further.

Dominique Burgeon, Director of FAO’s Emergency and Rehabilitation Division, gives us more insight into the situation in Syria. (Interview conducted by Sandra Ferrari)
