Total forest area continues to decrease, but the rate of net loss
14 November 2005, Rome -- Deforestation, mainly conversion of forests to agricultural land, continues at an alarmingly high rate; at the same time, forest planting, landscape restoration and natural expansion of forests have significantly reduced the net loss of forest area. These are the key findings of The Global Forest Resources Assessment 2005 (FRA 2005) that covers the period 1999-2005, as presented, in this audio segment by Ms. Mette Løyche Wilkie, FAO Coordinator of FRA 2005.
