Tackling ghost fishing and marine debris
Lost, abandoned and otherwise discarded fishing gear are hurting the marine environment, impacting fish stocks through "ghost fishing" and posing a hazard to boats, according to a new report jointly produced by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and UN Environmental Programme (UNEP). The phenomenon accounts for about 10 percent of all marine litter, or 640 000 tonnes worldwide.

Frank Chopin, FAO Senior Fisheries Officer, talks about the findings of the FAO/UNEP report and the reasons for marine litter.
