The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture (SOFIA) – 2016
Global consumption of fish has increased significantly thanks to sustained production of aquaculture, but despite that the situation of global fish stock is not good. Manuel Barange, FAO Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy and Resources Division, illustrates the key finding of the new SOFIA report, underlining the need to improve the sustainability of fish catches to secure future production. He also talks about the efficacy of resource management practices and the relevance of fishery products in global trade.
