COVID-19: Adapting to a new reality to ensure the provision of vital assistance

Overcoming the COVID-19 challenges within a pre-existing crisis

 

Today the COVID-19 pandemic is adversely affecting every person on earth – and the humanitarian and development sectors are not spared.

Lockdown restrictions resulted among others, in slowdowns of deliveries, other widespread emergency measures and border controls which, in turn, posed an immediate threat to the United Nations’ efforts to provide vital assistance to end hunger and malnutrition around the world.

Malo Meshack is the Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in South Sudan. In this interview, he talks about how his team has adjusted to this new reality and tells us more about the new challenges posed by COVID-19 in a country already beset with a pre-existing crisis.
