New online resources for agricultural and rural development policy-making
26 May 2005, Rome - FAO has just launched EASYPol, a new online repository of downloadable resources aimed at improving access to FAO materials for capacity development in policy formulation and implementation and enhancing FAO's delivery of technical support to member countries.

EASYPol materials cover a range of topics, including agriculture in the macroeconomic context, agricultural and sub-sectoral policies, the impacts of policies on poverty and food security, agroindustry and food chain policies, regional integration, international trade, and rural development.

New materials are being continuously developed and will be added to the existing collection as they become available. "We are already networking with other institutions involved in policy-making in FAO member countries and we encourage them to make their own contributions to the site," says Lorenzo Giovanni Bellù of the Agricultural Policy Support Service of FAO's Policy Assistance Division, which designed the site.

EASYPol targets all audiences involved or interested in policy-making, such as policy advisers and analysts, policy-makers, staff of government ministries, international organizations, civil society and non-governmental organizations, trainers in policy matters and students.

"The modules include analytical tools for assessing the impact of policies, but also materials like case studies that show the application of various concepts in real situations and explore the links between the agricultural sector and the rest of the economy," says Bellù.

Users can search for information by topic, or can follow one of EASYPol's training paths -- sets of interlinked modules organized in a sequential way, covering specific areas of policy work. They can also browse the most recently issued and most commonly downloaded modules.

EASYPol materials may be downloaded free of charge and reproduced for policy-making, research, educational or other non-commercial purposes.
