Abuja - As part of efforts to ensure that development support is enhanced at the sub-national levels in Nigeria, the FAO Representative has paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Ondo state Rotimi Akeredolu in Akure, the state capital.

The FAOR Fred Kafeero while assuring the Governor of the continued support of the organisation within its core mandate to ensure food security and natural resource management reiterated that FAO is a technical agency, with the expertise to strengthen the production capacities of farmers in partnership with governments both at the national and sub-national levels.

In his response the Governor said the enhancement of the agriculture production in the state is a welcome development, particularly in animal production and its value chains, mainly towards the implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP), which is seen as a panacea to the unending farmers-herders clashes.

Akeredolu said the assistance of FAO in this direction and other areas of comparative advantage, will help mitigate one of the major challenges the state is currently facing. “We are into animal husbandry and fish farming, because we have the longest coastline in the country. We are also into cash crops, which we have been known for long before now”, he noted.
