Working Together Towards the Biodiversity 2010 Target: support to FAO cooperation with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and other Environmental/Biodiversity-related Conventions and Multilateral Environmental Agreements

As 2010 approaches, the next few years will provide fertile ground for further development and implementation of initiatives towards the attainment of the Biodiversity 2010 Target of the Convention on Biological Diversity, i.e. to achieve by 2010 a significant reduction of the current rate of biodiversity loss at the global, regional and national level as a contribution to poverty alleviation and to the benefit of all life on Earth. Thus, the support to the Convention on Biological Diversity and other Environmental/Biodiversity-related Conventions, primarily through the creation of partnerships and cooperative agreements, plays an important role in ensuring coordination towards the year 2010, the International Year for Biodiversity, and the preparation of a post-2010 phase.
