Secretariat of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

The Secretary of the Commission is appointed by the Director-General of FAO and is administratively responsible to the Director-General. The Secretariat of the Commission monitors and coordinates the preparations for the Commission meetings and the work for the Sectoral Working Groups. The expenses of the Secretariat of the Commission are determined and paid by FAO within the limits of the relevant appropriations in the approved budget of FAO.

The Secretariat prepares background materials that the Commission requests. It keeps the Commission informed of recent developments in areas related to genetic resources for food and agriculture, as the basis for the policy discussions.

The Secretariat cooperates closely with the technical departments of FAO for the implementation of the Commission’s recommendations and with other international organizations on activities related to genetic resources for food and agriculture.
