Regional LADA training carried out in China

A training workshop on the LADA methodology was carried out in China, in April 2011. The workshop lasted one week and was attended by more than 20 participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Iran, Lebanon, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, Uzbekistan. The workshop was successful, raising interest among the participants about the possibility of using LADA methodologies in the region. The workshop was organized in indoor classes in Beijing plus a two-day field activity in Ulan Aodu county.

LADA spin-off inception workshop in the Philippines

For the first time, a fully-fledged LADA assessment has started as a spin-off of the LADA project, funded by the FAO TCP program. The TCP has started in The Philippines with an inception workshop carried out in the town of Angeles. The workshop was attended by about 40 participants from various institutions and regions of the country. A workplan for the first year of the project was prepared, and the main technical bases were established. The first operational activity is now planned for July 2011.

International LADA Workshop held in FAO HQ

After more than four years of activities, the LADA project presented its achievements in a two-day workshop, on 6 and 7 December 2010. The first day reviewed the LADA methodological tools and the results obtained at global level and in six countries (Argentina, China, Cuba, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia). The second day discussed in detail LADA follow-up activities, in particular in the framework of the UNCCD process, and in support of national land use planning and rural development activities. Contributions from a number of countries and international partners were presented.

On Wednesday 8 December, the Steering Committee of the project met to assess the results and consider future perspectives.

LADA regional training workshop in Tunisia

The LADA regional training workshop for North Africa was organized by OSS (Observatoire du Sahel et du Sahara) in collaboration with the LADA coordination team in Tunisia (Direction des sols, DG-ACTA, Ministry of Agriculture) and the sub regional FAO office in Tunis. The workshop was held from 20 to 30 September 2010. The venue was in Tunis for the in-class initial sessions on the global, national and local methodologies of LADA, and in the governorate of Siliana for the practical session on the LADA local assessment. Participants from Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Tunisia attended training. The UNCCD focal points of the participating countries, or their delegates, attended the first two days, focusing on the possibilities of mainstreaming and up scaling of the LADA methodology for assessing and monitoring land degradation in the region.

LADA technical workshop held in The Netherlands

A 10-days workshop was held in The Netherlands in the month of September 2010. The workshop aimed at summarizing the results of the project at all levels of scale. The workshop was held at the seat of ISRIC in Wageningen and at the Free University in Amsterdam. Representatives of all LADA countries attended the workshop, as well as other partner institutions like UNEP, UNCCD, WOCAT and JRC.
