Regional LADA training carried out in South Africa |

A training workshop on the LADA methodology was carried out in Pretoria, South Africa, in August 2010. The workshop lasted one week and was attended by more than 20 participants from Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The workshop was successful, raising interest among the participants about the possibility of using LADA methodologies in the region. As an outcome of the workshop, the South African LADA team was invited to participate in the FANRPAN 2010 Policy Dialogue, which took place in Namibia early September.

LADA regional training course in Argentina |

An international training course on LADA methodology at local and national level has been held in Argentina. The course was organized with a preliminary, on-line module, and a two weeks residential course. The on-line module has been managed by the University of Cordoba, while the residential part had taken place in Mendoza from the 7 to the 18 June. The course language was Spanish and participants from Argentina Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay attended.

National assessment database now available |
A database software for collecting and storing land degradation and conservation data has been finalized and it is now available for download. The database allows to input, save and export data related to the indicators collected through the QM manual of LADA/WOCAT. The database can be freely downloaded from this site, complete with manuals, by clicking here. |

LADA Discussion Forum is now open! |

A new discussion forum has been implemented into the LADA website. The aim of the forum is to provide all LADA users with a platform where they will be able to share ideas and experiences on land degradation and sustainable land management.

LADA/WOCAT seminar held in Rome on tools for assessing and monitoring SLM and Land degradation |

A LADA/WOCAT seminar was held in FAO headquarters on the 16th February 2010. The seminar was organized as part of an internal WOCAT management meeting and strategy development process for scaling up of LADA/WOCAT assessment and monitoring tools and methods. The objective of the seminar was to inform potential partners of the WOCAT/ LADA tools and their potential applications and opportunities for networking / collaboration and to obtain feedback/suggestions from FAO and partners on opportunities for uptake / adaptation in global, regional and national programs. The seminar was targeted to Rome-based agencies and participants from the following organizations: Swiss Development Corporation SDC, UNEP/DGEF, IFAD, EC Joint Research Center, Drynet/Global Mechanism and Bioversity International.
