Territorial Development Meeting
An informal meeting was organized on 8 June 2007 in order to share field experiences and methodological concerns about the issue of Territorial Development. The meeting, chaired by the Land tenure and Management Unit, was attended by over 35 participants from different units of FAO.
The meeting included a brief presentation on some basic common principles guiding territorial development from an actors’ perspective (participation, communication, empowerment and negotiation), followed by a series of case studies from different regions (Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America). Several on-going areas of work, such as the gender dimension in territorial development and the communication for development and negotiated territorial development were then presented.
Some methodological texts which had been prepared at Headquarters, at Regional Offices and in the framework of field projects were presented, all concerned Territorial Development as a cross-cutting issue with increasing relevance for FAO activities.
