FAO Land programme in Angola releases a video on San land titling experience

A video illustrating the land titling experience of the San Community in Kipungo district, Huila, Angola has been produced and was screened in Lubango, Angola, by the FAO Land Tenure and Management Unit.

The video examines the Angolan titling experience, which was initiated several years ago with a sensitization campaign carried out by the national non-governmental organization OCADEC. In 2005, with the support of the Italian-financed project OSRO/ITA/414/ANG, FAO organized a training course on participatory land delimitation with field experience involving the San territory. The follow-up to this training was been carried out through the European Commission-financed project GCP/ANG/035/EC. The land deed, covering a surface of 1389 hectares was officially delivered in April 2007 during the First San Conference in Lubango.

This video briefly illustrates the overall objective of the project, an overview of the San situation in southern Angola, and the ceremony for the delivery of the title. The video also addresses ways forward for supporting this local development initiative.
