Promoting Agricultural Innovation through International Partnerships and Governance Support

The Research and Extension Unit promotes agricultural innovation through coalitions with the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR), the Global Forum for Rural Advisory Services (GFRAS) and the Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP).

Partnerships, networking and governance are strengthened through joint advocacy and policy, programme and institutional development.

Why is it important?

For addressing the current and future challenges of food and nutrition security and impact of climate change on agriculture, joint forces are required.  International agricultural research (IAR) needs to be embedded in wider development programmes and well linked with development partners at national and international level to have an impact on increasing food production, reduction of hunger and poverty and sustainable use of national resources. Key for better outreach and impact are well functioning, pluralistic and innovative advisory systems. Knowledge sharing, learning and partnering at national, regional and international level are crucial to develop more effective and efficient policies and services for extension.
