Agricultural cooperatives, the focus of World Food Day 2012, are the key to feeding the world

In this Episode of Hungry Planet - a FAO, IFAD and WFP production - three reports on agricultural cooperatives are presented from Guatemala, Afghanistan and Southern Niger.

Particularly in Niger’s project (starting from 7.05 min), for which OEKR is Leader Technical Unit, agricultural cooperatives gain access to better seeds and better farming techniques to fight the region's severe droughts. The project Intensification de l’Agriculture  par le renforcement des boutiques d’intrants coopératives (IARBIC), financed by Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg and the European Union, introduced new techniques and the necessary agricultural inputs to improve food security in the country.
