What was/is being done? Zero Percent is a live food marketplace created to help businesses eliminate their food waste. It allows restaurants to post food donations and discounts in real-time. When a deal is posted on Zero Percent, it is instantly available to potential customers in the vicinity; since the Zero Percent Market is location based, only customers within 6 miles will see the deals. The deals can be looked up on iPhone and Android apps, zeropercent.us website, or on prime time displays in high-traffic areas. Zero Percent is free for both customers and for businesses for eliminating immediate food waste. Recently, businesses also have the ability to post food donation in Zero Percent for local soup kitchens and shelters. When a donation is posted on Zero Percent, the system immediately finds a volunteer, through text and app alerts, who picks up the donation and drops it off at a local pantry or soup kitchen.
Outcomes and impacts Zero Percent saved over 700 pounds of food through its donation program. Since no track is kept about claimed deals, exact numbers for the deals program are unavailable.
