Global Map of Irrigation Areas

Chile

Irrigated area in Chile adds up to 1 900 000 ha and it is mainly concentrated in the central part of the country (regions Bio-Bio and Maule) [CL01]. The figures per region originate from the AQUASTAT-library and refer to 1996. Maps with the location of irrigated areas originate form different sources [CL02],[CL03],[CL04]. There were no irrigation maps available for the two southern regions Magallanes and Aysen. Therefore information on the location of cropped areas has been used to distribute the irrigated area within these regions [CL05].

The distribution of irrigated area by sub-national units is listed in the table below.
