Global Map of Irrigation Areas
Guatemala
The total area equiped for irrigation in Guatemala equals 129 803 ha [GT01]. The figures per department originate from the AQUASTAT-library and refer to 1990. The irrigated area per department added up to 76 369 ha and was scaled to 129 803 ha to meet the AQUASTAT country value for 1997. The distribution of irrigated areas within the department is mainly based on a World Bank study on private irrigation from the year 1993 [GT02] and on a national map showing the location of irrigation projects in 1967 [GT03]. Apart from this two other national sources were used with information on the location but without the extent of the areas under irrigation [GT04], [GT05].
The distribution of irrigated area by sub-national units is listed in the table below.
