on the Farming System Survey
As a follow-up to the Entebbe event of October 2007, the project is organizing a second regional workshop to support the implementation of the Farming System Survey.
Aim of the workshop is to present and analyze the results obtained so far by the national consultants. More specifically, the agenda covers the following subjects:
- Presentation of the data collected and findings of the national consultants;
- Identification of major agricultural production systems for each Nile country;
- Per farming system, assessment of information on current agricultural productivity and appreciation of constraints to increase productivity;
- Per farming system, identification of plausible and realistic measures to alleviate these constraints.
Data and findings will be compared among Nile countries for consistency and similarities, and an attempt will be made to consolidate the production system delineation for the Nile basin countries. The workshop will also appreciate the extent to which the study has responded to its objectives so far, and identify further work required.
The workshop will be organized in two separate but identical events. The first group of participants, including the national consultants from Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan, will meet from 10 – 12 March 2008 in Cairo, Egypt.
An identical event with participation from Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda will be held from 26 – 28 March 2008 in Entebbe, Uganda.
The project has opted for two separate events in order to allow for more interactions and contact time between the national consultants and the project team.
