AQUASTAT is FAO's global information system on water and agriculture. It collects, analyzes and validates the best available data on water resources and their use…. And now also on wastewater!
Eleven new variables have been included with information on municipal wastewater production, collection, treatment and discharge or use. So far more that 120 data sources have been reviewed and thousands of national data collected and checked against systematic validation criteria. The result is that now more than 800 data have been validated for more than 100 countries. In addition more than 300 metadata are visible externally. These can be viewed by clicking on the green cell in the online database results page or they can be downloaded, together with the data, as an Excel file. In addition AQUASTAT has 300 internal metadata available.
This is just the starting point but paves the way to have the first global and comprehensive information system on the wastewater cycle, in collaboration with other partners such as the International Water Management Institute (IWMI).
Both the web page and the database are available in English, French and Spanish.
