Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD)

ACSAD works within the framework of the League of Arab States to unify Arab efforts to develop agricultural research in the arid and semi-arid areas.  The Animal Wealth Division of the Center aims to increase the productivity of small ruminants (sheep and goats) through genetic improvements, improving the productivty of indigenous cattle and camel, and improving the efficiency of the utilization of feed resources.  The Soil and Water Uses Division is concerned with identifying techniques for the optimum exploitation of soil and water resources.  This Division works to advance early detection and monitoring of the desertification process, prevent soil degradation, and establish soil databases in the Arab countries.

Arid Land Research Center (ALRC), Tottori University

ALRC is a national joint-use research facility of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.  Its mandate is to conduct research on desertification and to help people in arid areas develop sustainable agricultural practices.  ALRC encourages foreign researchers and scientists to visit and collaborate at the Centre.  It has divisions in climatology and water resources, biological production, afforestration and land conservation, socioeconomics, and health and medicine.

Arid Zone Research Centre, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC)

PARC is the federal agricultural research organization of the Pakistani government.  The vision of the Arid Zone Research Centre is to improve the productivity of small ruminants (sheep and goat) under conditions of low-forage availability.  The Centre is focused on raising livestock under grazing conditions with minimal supplemental feeding and determining the type and requirements of supplemental feeds.

Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources (ANSAB)

ANSAB is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working in the South Asia region.  The organization promotes community-based enterprises and value chains, natural resources management, and biodiversity conservation, especially for non-timber products and high value crops.  It is committed to biodiversity conservation and economic development through community-based enterprises.  ANSAB encourages organic certification for NTFPs in Nepal and has played a facilitation role in organic certification for NTFPs for various products, including 9 essential oils.

Asian farmers’ Association for Sustainable Development (AFA)

AFA is a regional alliance of 9 farmer federations in 8 Asian countries, representing 10 million farmers. The organisation was established in May 2002. AFA is an advocacy group for farmers’ rights and development, genuine agrarian reform and mainstreaming of sustainable agriculture in regional and national policies and programs. It promotes sustainable agricultural policies and practises

Asociación Cubana de Técnicos Agrícolas y Forestales (ACTAF)

ACTAF is a non-governmental association that works to support the development of sustainable agricultural systems.  The Association offers education and extension services, as well as assists the agricultural community by forming farmer groups and encouraging networking.  The Association also publishes the tri-annual publication “Organic Agriculture” and organizes an international organic agriculture conference every other year.  The website is only available in Spanish.

Association Tefy Saina

Association for the Promotion of Organic Agriculture in Cameroon (ASPABIC)

ASPABIC is the sole structure/body gathering only operators of the organic sector in Cameroon. There are approximately 100 members: producers, exporters, researchers or advocates of organic agriculture. ASPABIC provides its members with services such as promotion of organic agriculture, information, public awareness, technical monitoring and advice.

Association of Biodynamic Plant Breeders (ABDP)

The ABDP is an association of plant breeders who breed cultivated plant varieties for the organic sector, working with a biodynamic background. Goals are to breed varieties suited for organic growing conditions, and which are appropriate for human nutritional needs and adapted to local conditions, thereby enhancing regional diversity. Breeding activities focus on vegetables and cereals.
