Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems (CIAS), University of Wisconsin-Madison

CIAS is a part of the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Agriculture.  Its goal is to learn how particular integrated farming systems can contribute to environmental, economic, social and intergenerational sustainability.  The Center aims to help farmers receive a larger share of the consumer’s food dollar while using sustainable methods.  CIAS is currently documenting the soil fertility practices used by organic growers.  It also conducts research in compost.

Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR)

CIFOR, a division of CGIAR, functions as a leading source of information and analysis on the following topical areas: the relationships among forests, livelihoods and the environment; how to harness forests for climate change mitigation and adaptation; the importance of forest products in conservation and economic development; and the impacts of globalised trade and investment on forests and forest-dependent communities.

Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources (CSANR), Washington State University

CSANR is actively supporting the expansion of organic agriculture through teaching, research and outreach.  Current research priorities in organic agriculture include nutrient and soil management, the integration of livestock and cropping systems, pest management, seed production, food quality and economics.

Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI)

CAZRI is a federal research institute of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.  Its mandate is to undertake research that will contribute to the development of sustainable farming systems in the arid ecosystem.  The Division of Animal Science & Forage researches livestock issues such as: health/deficiency diseases, impact of drought on production and reproduction status, formulation of supplementary and complete feed, feeding management, and genetic improvement of breeds, as well as pasture issues such as: impact of drought on feed availability, establishment of suitable Silvi pasture system for optimum yield of grasses, and improvement of indigenous grasses.  The Division of Natural Resources and Environment researches the integrated assessment of natural resources including soil and water, soil carbon and carbon sequestration, desertification assessment and mapping, soil fertility changes, and evapo-transpiration of arid zone crops.

Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP)

CIMAP is a multi-locational research and development institute located in different agro-climatic zones of India.  CIMAP is involved in conservation and utilization of genetic resources of medicinal and aromatic plants, and the development of green technologies for therapeutic, nutraceutical, agrichemical and health purposes.  The Institute is engaged in a number of research projects focused on organic farming.

Central Laboratory of Organic Agriculture (CLOA)

CLOA researches and promotes organic production of various crops, especially vegetables, fruit and MAPs.  In addition, the Laboratory organizes organic agriculture training courses for the private and public sector, conducts organic certification, provides alternatives to agrochemicals and registers all accredited organic farms in Egypt.

Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA)

CRIDA aims to enhance the quality of natural resources to achieve sustainability and also  assure the socio-economic growth of farmers in drylands.  Research undertaken at the Institute is aimed at building a repository of information on rainfed agriculture in India and highlighting water management as the core issue in sustainable dryland agriculture.

Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI)

CRRI is the research body of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research focused on rice research.  The Institute has two research centres; one centre is focused on rainfed uplands and the other centre is focused on flood prone rainfed lowlands.  CRRI’s goal is to improve the income and quality of life of rice farmers in India.  CRRI has divisions in crop improvement; crop production; crop protection; biochemistry, plant physiology and environmental sciences; and social sciences.

Centre National de Ressources en Agriculture Biologique (ABioDoc)

ABioDoc a pour missions la veille, la collecte, le traitement et la diffusion d’informations concernant les domaines techniques, économiques ou réglementaires en agriculture biologique et en agriculture durable, ainsi que les aspects environnementaux et sociaux. Il propose plusieurs services destinés à tout public. ABioDoc travaille en partenariat avec l’ensemble de la filière «agriculture biologique» de la production à la distribution, avec un rôle prépondérant dans les domaines de la recherche, de la formation et du développement. Avec plus de 17000 références c'est la plus importante base de données française sur l'agriculture biologique.

Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD)

CIRAD is a French research centre working with developing countries to tackle international agricultural and development issues using sustainable methods. CIRAD's activities involve the life sciences, social sciences and engineering sciences, applied to agriculture, food and rural territories. The approach is to work hand-in-hand with local people in the local environment, on complex, ever-changing issues: food security, ecological intensification, emerging diseases, the future of agriculture in developing countries, etc.

Aquaculture and Aquatic Resource Management Research Unit (ARU), The work on aquaculture was focused mainly on Sub-Saharan Africa for a long period, but has now diversified towards South America and Southeast Asia.  It conducts research involving the biological and ecological basis of aquaculture to the development of sustainable socio-technical models.
