FAO and the Italian research institutions (CNR, CREA, ENEA) jointly organized a seminar: Promoting healthy diets through sustainable food systems in the Mediterranean: The case of Italy.  The Italian dietary guidelines, focusing on seasonality and typical local products as well as on the promotion of linkages between the actors of the food chain, allow strengthening production and consumption in a sustainable manner. Lomonosov Moscow State University organized the third International Symposium on the History of Food and National Food Culture. This year the event focused on Pulses in Russian Food Culture. The Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) in collaboration with FAO organized the Seventh International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS VII) which took place in Rome on 26-28 October 2016. La Sapienza University and FAO jointly organized the International Year of Pulses (IYP) Regional Dialogue for Europe and Central Asia on Nutritious seeds for a sustainable future held at La Sapienza University in Rome on 12 October 2016. The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and FAO celebrated four decades of collaboration last week in Washington- IFPRI’s home office. The joint efforts helped enhance the capacity of policy makers to make evidence-based policy decisions, create information resources and networks for food security, strengthen the focus on gender in agriculture, promote productive and sustainable rural development, and advocate for enhancing the positive impact of agriculture and food systems on nutrition.
