WUR and FAO: Taking Action Through Partnership

10/05/2017 -

Food security can only be achieved through effective collaboration with all interested actors in the food and agriculture sector by making use of each other’s knowledge, experience and comparative advantages

In March 2017, recognizing the success of the past four years of partnership, FAO and Wageningen University & Research (WUR) have sought to reaffirm their commitment to collaborate by signing an agreement to renew the partnership for an additional four years.

A successful partnership is built upon principles and values, a shared vision, and shared goals. The WUR-FAO partnership is characterized by a natural affinity of mutual interest and complementary strengths. These characteristics have enabled the successful history of the partnership and pave the way forward for the next four years. Drawing on the complementary strengths of WUR’s scientific knowledge and technical know-how and FAO’s mission and global reach, the two organizations together are able to focus and intensify their collaborations to make a greater global impact in achieving food security for all.

Looking back, with more than 68 joint projects taking place since 2012, the FAO-WUR partnership has facilitated the uptake of latest knowledge and information at global, regional and country levels, increased capacities and research on key food security themes, and promoted informed policy-making for FAO’s Member States. Building upon this well-established collaboration, the partners are now looking forward to a new four-year work plan with a focused-approach for achieving the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development.
