Request for Formal Status with FAO

1. Consultative status

1. Consultative status

Granted to an organization concerned with matters covering a substantial portion of FAO’s field of activity and which cooperates fully with FAO for the furtherance of the objectives of the organization and, in cooperation with competent services of FAO, determines the ways and means of coordinating activities within the field of FAO with a view to avoid duplication and overlapping.

Representatives of the Director-General will attend and participate in the meetings of its governing bodies, general assemblies and appropriate technical meetings. The organization may also send observers to the sessions of the FAO Council and Conference, and may participate, upon invitation of the Director-General, in certain experts’ meetings, technical conferences and seminars, and receive documentation on an exchange basis.

2. Specialized Consultative status

2. Specialized Consultative status

Granted to an organization concerned with matters covering a particular portion of FAO’s field of activity and which undertakes to cooperate fully with FAO within its specialized field and, in cooperation with the competent services of FAO, to determine the ways and means of coordinating activities in such a specialized field.

Representatives of the Director-General will attend and participate in the meetings of its governing bodies, general assemblies and appropriate technical meetings. The organization shall be provisionally invited, subject to approval as appropriate by the Conference and Council, to send an observer to sessions of the Conference and Council. With the approval of the Director-General, it may send an observer to appropriate technical meetings, and receives documents on an exchange basis

3. Liaison status

3. Liaison status

The granting of Liaison Status is determined by an exchange of correspondence between the organization and the Director-General, who reports thereon to the Council and may, when necessary, consult the Council. An organization in Liaison Status is concerned with matters covering a portion of FAO’s field of activity and is in a position to give practical assistance in that field. The Director-General may invite organizations in Liaison Status to send an observer to sessions of the Conference and Council and to specialized meetings held under the auspices of FAO
