Improving nutrition is a public good and a responsibility of all - FAO welcomes support from leading Italian mobility companies to ICN2

FAO welcomes support from leading Italian mobility companies to ICN2

19/11/2014 -

Malnutrition is one of the greatest threats to people’s health and well-being. It imposes unacceptably high health, social and economic costs, especially on women, children and the elderly, and more broadly on families and society.

Improving nutrition, and ensuring everyone has access to a healthy diet, is not the responsibility of the individual alone. Nutrition is a public issue that must be addressed primarily by governments, in collaboration with other stakeholders including civil society, the private sector and academia.

In this partnership framework, FAO especially welcomes the support of Italian transport giants Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS Italiane) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2).

ICN2 is jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) and takes place at FAO Headquarters in Rome, from 19-21 November 2014. ICN2 will be a follow-up to the first such conference, which was held in 1992 and will be the first global intergovernmental conference to address the world’s nutrition problems in the 2lst century. ICN2 is also expected to contribute to the overall direction of the Post-2015 Development Agenda and to the focus of EXPO 2015 in Milan, whose theme will be "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life."

ADR and Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane will step up cooperation with FAO on ICN2 to increase awareness on nutrition problems through various communication tools such as a video to be displayed at Fiumicino Airport and on Frecciarossa and Frecciargento trains, together with other ICN2 information material being channeled through Leonardo Express trains connecting customers and delegates travelling to Rome to attend the Conference.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, ICN2 official mobility supplier, is providing 15 cars to facilitate delegates’ transportation to the conference. The presence of Fiat 500L personalized for Expo with a special texture, underlines the link between FCA and the universal exposition. FCA, also Sustainable Mobility Partner of Expo 2015, has long been committed to proposing a mobility model that respects the planet through the gradual reduction of vehicles’ environmental impact.

Thanks to these key partners’ commitment ICN2 message will be echoed and reinforced to the local and the international audience travelling to Italy.

The partnership with the Italian leading companies is part of FAO’s work with the private sector, a key ally in the fight against hunger.
