Linking youth and rural communities in Africa


The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Development in Agriculture (RUFORUM) has launched an initiative on “Community-based Field Attachments”.

The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Development in Agriculture (RUFORUM) has launched an initiative on “Community-based Field Attachments” to provide opportunities for postgraduate and doctoral students in agriculture sciences to increase experience of working with local communities in Africa. The program will promote student mobility and increase research uptake through knowledge exchange and interactions between young scholars and rural communities.  

Dr. Dan Gustafson, Deputy Director General for Programmes, also stressed the importance of building the capacities of youth and academia  to contribute to the sustainable agricultural development in the region in his key note speech “Role of universities in achieving sustainable agricultural and rural transformation in Africa” delivered at the Annual General Meeting of RUFORUM held at Lilongwe, Malawi on 25 -27 October 2017.
