LESLIE LIPPER - Senior Environmental Economist, Economic and Social Department, FAO

Leslie Lipper is a senior environmental economist in the agriculture and development economics division at FAO. She has worked there over the past seven years developing a program of research on natural resource economics and poverty reduction program. Leslie is the lead author of the FAO State of Food and Agriculture report 2007 focussing paying farmers for environmental services. She received a doctorate in Agricultural and Natural Resource Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 2000. She has an undergraduate degree in political science and a master’s degree in international agricultural development from the University of California at Davis. Leslie worked for several years as consultant for FAO, IFAD and World Bank on designing agricultural development and poverty reduction programs, primarily in China and Vietnam. She was Fulbright Scholar in Brazil in 1998-99, and a volunteer English teacher in Beijing China in the early 1980’s.

CHARLES OGANG  - President, Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE)

Charles Hilton Ogang was born in Uganda (Apac district) in 1956. He is a social worker and an administrator by training and he holds a bachelor degree in Social Works and Social Administration. He has also been a farmer for over 20 years. Mr. Ogang was a district leader serving as a district speaker for 6 years from 1998 to 2003. He has also been a farmers’ leader since 1998 serving at both at the District Farmers Association and Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE) in Different Capacities. UNFFE is an umbrella farmer's organization NGO founded in January 1992 as Uganda National Farmers Association (UNFFA) with its head office located in Kampala. The desire to unite and work together as farmers was an outcome of agricultural competition organized by the ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) all over the country in the past years. UNFFE is the largest non-governmental farmers' organization in Uganda

GORDON BACON - CEO, Pulse Canada

Pulse Canada is the national industry association that represents growers, processors and exporters of Canadian pulses. Pulse Canada’s mandate is to contribute to the profitability of the Canadian pulse industry by delivering innovative solutions that improve efficiencies and increase the value of pulse production, processing and marketing.  When successful, Pulse Canada’s efforts will ensure that different market segments recognize pulses as healthy, sustainable and functional food products, leading to increased worldwide demand for pulses.  

Gordon represents the Canadian pulse industry as a member of Executive Committee for CICILS IPTIC, the international pulse trade association.  Gordon chairs the Nutrition Committee and also participates on the International Year of Pulses Committee.

Gordon Bacon participated at the launch of the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) summit, New York, 23rd Sept.

KANNAIYAN SUBRAMANIAM - South India Coordination Committee of Farmer Movement

Kannaiyan Subramaniam is an activist with the South Indian Coordination Committee of Farmers Movements (SICCFM), a member group to Via Campesina. SICCFM is a coalition of farmers movement, founded on 2nd October, 2009, in a conference against World Trade Organisation and Free trade Agreements organised by Karnataka Rajya Ryotha Sangha (KRRS) and Thamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam in Bangalore, Karnataka. SICCFM represents over 200.000 farmering households and 530.000 members including over 100.000 in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

SANTIAGO DEL SOLAR DORREGO – Farmer, Agronomist - AACREA

I was born in 1964 in Buenos Aires Argentina. I studied at Facultad de Agronomía UBA, and became Ingeniero Agrónomo in 1992. I’ve been working in my family farm in North West of Buenos Aires province. I also worked as adviser and manager in other farms in the region from 1996 till 2003. 5th generation of farmers in Argentina. Married with Maria Marta and father of Miguel. In my family farm we plant soybeans, barley, wheat, sunflower and corn. I’m a member of AACREA (farmers groups) since 1991 and became president of the AACREA agriculture Comision from 2005-07. I was vice-president of Maizar  ( Corn chain value) during 2008-09 and was president  of Maizar between 2009 and October 2011. Today working on my family farm as a manager, and also member of AACREA board since 2011.
