Protecting and promoting women’s land rights in the face of Covid-19 and beyond

Land is a critical resource for rural women and men. Yet around the world, women remain significantly disadvantaged with regards to their right to land. Even when they are recognized as the primary users, they often lack ownership or control of the land or its economic outputs. The COVID-19 pandemic threatens to exacerbate this inequality.

The webinar will discuss the importance of women’s land rights for the achievement of the SDG agenda in terms of the eradication of food insecurity, poverty and the achievement of gender equality, as well as the measures that can be adopted to foster gender equitable land tenure rights. It will highlight good practices, lessons learned, as well as challenges and opportunities for advancing women’s land rights during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

This event constitutes the third virtual dialogue on Parliamentary action for gender equality and resilient food systems in response to COVID-19 organized by FAO in collaboration with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and Oxfam.
