Activity updates - July/August 2013
FFF builds upon experiences of the NFP Facility (since 2005), Forest Connect, and GFP (since 2009) support, which have contributed to the development of:
The Launching Workshop to set up priorities for FFF support was held on 7-10 February 2013.
The Baseline Study, commissioned by IUCN is drafted to provide more information on existing cross-sectoral fora and the participation of the forestry sector in those.
Activities at both national level and in some selected pilot territories (department, municipality, community levels) are identified. Workplan and budget are validated.
Pillar 1: Organizing producer for policy dialogue and business development
Support to strengthening producer organizations will be initiated through providing continued support to the Alianza.
Pillar 2: Government cross-sector coordination
For the FFF implementation, given the present situation of several government institutions responsible for the forest sector it was agreed that FAO Guatemala would convene meetings with the forestry government institutions to discuss how to make the forest sector, and the services it provides, more visible and how the sector could strengthen its contribution to the implementation of key government policies and initiatives, like Agricultura Familiar, Pacto Hambre Cero and to the development of a new Energy Policy.
Pilot areas will be prioritized by government for key policy implementation of cross sectoral thematic issues like fuelwood, tourism, food security, water. Since the forest sector in Guatemala remains isolated and not integrated into the main national policies and initiatives, like the Agricultura Familiar, Hambre Cero and the Energy policy, FFF support will focus on cross/sectoral integration of the forest sector.
