Forest and Farm Producer Organisations: Operating Systems for the SDGs
The European Development Days (EDD) are Europe’s leading forum on development and international cooperation. Organised by the European Commission, the forum brings the development community together to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. For its tenth edition, the EDD will be one of the first international conferences to address the way forward for the 2030 Agenda. The thread of this edition focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The title for the tenth edition of the EDD reflected this call for global engagement:“Sustainable Development Goals in Action: Our World, Our Dignity, Our Future”.

Building on the persuasive set of case studies presented four years ago in the original Strength in Numbers, this new publication on Forest and Farm Producers, key in implementing SDGs, brings together more examples of successful farm forestry producer organisations. The report is structured around the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and argues that producer organizations can be seen as the ‘operating vehicles’ of the SDG agenda: through service-provision to their members, such organizations make solid contributions towards the SDGs, bringing benefits not only to their members but to people and the planet at large.
The publication urges support for building up capacities and appropriate investment to release this potential at large scale.
