The first ever visit of FAO Director-General to IFPRI’s headquarters in Washington last week celebrated four decades of rich partnership that has generated cutting-edge technical knowledge and enhanced expertise for supporting food security and improved nutrition. In warmly welcoming FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva, IFPRI’s Director General Shenggen Fan noted that the IFPRI-FAO partnership is built on a shared commitment to make agriculture and food systems more inclusive, productive, resilient, and sustainable.

17 May 2016, Rome. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Grupo TRAGSA signed today a Memorandum of Understanding forming a three-year partnership to jointly fight against illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing. Under the agreement, the parties’ will collaborate on the Global Record of Fishing Vessels, refrigerated transport and supply vessels, as well as capacity building for inspectors, traceability systems, and awareness raising campaigns.

9 May 2016, Rome. How do we ensure that agricultural investment contributes to the eradication of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition rather than jeopardizing it? The members of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) intensely negotiated for two years to address this particular question. Their answer came in October 2014: By adopting the Principles for Responsible Investment for Agriculture and Food Systems (CFS-RAI).
