FAO, the UN agency devoted to eradicating hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition, is currently working with the Rabobank Foundation in Tanzania, Kenya, and Ethiopia to improve the incomes of smallholder farmers by providing support to small rural businesses, as well as through the identification of productive, competitive and sustainable agri-businesses along the whole value chain. The partners are creating financial literacy programs and management skills training to help farmer producer groups become eligible for formal lending. Civil Society and Private Sector participate in an informal meeting on ICN2

20 June 2014, Rome - Civil society, private sector and academia representatives met today at FAO headquarters in Rome with government representatives from the Organization’s member states to discuss the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2), which will be jointly organized by FAO and the World Health Organization (WHO) in November 2014.

The informal meeting was initiated by FAO following a request by member countries to involve non-state actors in the ICN2 process.

World Water Council and FAO step up their partnership

8 June 2014, Marseille/Rome - The World Water Council (WWC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have agreed to intensify their collaboration in a bid to strengthen global water and food security.

Long-time partners, the two organizations will expand their joint work on a number of fronts, including: knowledge and technology development to enhance water productivity; the education of water management professionals and building human capital development in the water sector; and promoting sound water policymaking and better cooperation within the water and irrigated agriculture sectors.
