The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Grupo TRAGSA signed today a Memorandum of Understanding forming a three-year partnership to jointly fight against illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing. Under the agreement, the parties’ will collaborate on the Global Record of Fishing Vessels, refrigerated transport and supply vessels, as well as capacity building for inspectors, traceability systems, and awareness raising campaigns. 13 May 2016, Rome - The European Union (EU) and FAO have agreed to step up joint efforts to support tropical timber producing countries in curbing illegal logging, improving forest governance and promoting the trade of legally sourced timber. The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have acknowledged the need to respect, protect and fulfil the fundamental human right to food and optimal nutrition in Africa. 8 April 2016, Abidjan - Results achieved through Africa Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF) financed projects are adding momentum to the vision of Africa- Africa cooperation to achieve food security across the continent.  The fund, which was set up in 2012, is widely seen as an innovative mechanism for mobilizing resources from one African country for the benefit of another, promoting intra-Africa collaboration, also known as South-South Cooperation.  Since 2013, contributions have reached $40 million, with Equatorial Guinea and Angola being the major financial contributors. April 2016, Rome - FAO, China and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have signed a two‑year agreement worth almost $ 1.5 million aimed at increasing food and nutrition security in the conflict-ravaged African nation. The deal establishes a new South-South Cooperation (SSC) partnership which will make Chinese technical advice and expertise available to the country's agriculture sector.
