Rome, 12 October 2012- FAO Director-General, Graziano da Silva met with the Coordination Committee of the Civil Society Mechanism in preparation for the Committee on Food Security (CFS), to discuss a number of important issues such as Principles for Responsible Agricultural Investment, support to the urban poor and indigenous peoples, implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Land Tenure and suggested ways to enhance FAO’s cooperation with civil society at the local and national levels.
At a time when 870 million people still suffer from chronic undernourishment, Civil Society can play a crucial role in the challenge to building enough resources to ensure food security and reduce poverty worldwide.
