The report complements the usual assessment of food security and nutrition with projections of what the world may look like in 2030, if trends of the last decade continue. Projections show that the world is not on track to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030 and, despite some progress, most indicators are also not on track to meet global nutrition targets. The food security and nutritional status of the most vulnerable population groups is likely to deteriorate further due to the health and socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This concept note proposes an efficient and flexible due diligence approach that can be applied across the UN Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) members. It takes into account different priorities and specific mandates established for organizations and should be viewed as a basic framework to harmonize around a set of principles and operational standards for due diligence. An evidence‐based, country‐led and country‐owned initiative, the Hand‐in‐Hand Initiative represents a bold step to eradicate poverty (SDG 1) and end hunger and all forms of malnutrition (SDG2) by accelerating agricultural transformation and sustainable rural development. In doing so, the Initiative contributes to the attainment of all the other Sustainable Development Goals.
