Background

South-South Cooperation (SSC) was officially launched in 1996 within the framework of FAO’s Special Programme for Food Security (SPFS). Over the past 20 years, FAO has called upon the international community to explore effective ways to address food security threats in developing countries; and through its efforts, the Organization has made important contributions to improving agricultural productivity and food security where most needed.
