COVID-19 Response and Recovery Programme - Boosting Smallholder Resilience for Recovery

Beyond the COVID-19 pandemic’s toll on human health and everyday life,
containment measures to prevent the virus from spreading...
are resulting in increased poverty,
destroying livelihoods and increasing food insecurity.

FAO’s COVID RESPONSE
prioritizes boosting…
SMALLHOLDER RESILIENCE FOR RECOVERY
Only together can we…

Safeguard the most vulnerable in rural and urban settings
We are working with governments to expand social protection plans that are shock resistant and gender sensitive,
providing urgent livelihoods assistance to the most vulnerable,
combining cash transfers and technical support for productive capacities,
and ensuring people can continue to produce, access and consume nutritious food.

Promote transformative economic recovery
We are adopting context-specific epidemic, conflict, disaster and climate and disaster risk-reduction good practices.
We are improving smallholders’ access to markets and consumers,
and increasing food processing and diversification opportunities,
as well as enhancing protocols to ensure the functioning of local food value chains.

Build capacities and institutions for resilience
We are strengthening multi-risk governance institutions
that integrate the management of food chain threats,
supporting emergency preparedness and anticipatory actions,
and stabilizing access to financial tools for affected smallholders.

NOW IS THE TIME TO TRANSFORM OUR FOOD SYSTEMS AND OUR FUTURE.

Be part of the solution.
